Isaiah 43:2

It's rainy and yucky today in Tornado Alley. I think Fall has officially hit us.

The other day I stumbled across the verse:

"When you pass through the water, I will be with you. And through the rivers, they will not over flow you. When you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you." Isaiah 43:2

I've had it on post its in front of my keyboard at work for a few weeks now; I love looking down and just skimming across it. It's fast becoming one of my favorite verses. Not only because it's comforting-that God will ALWAYS be with you, not matter what rivers or fires you get yourself into-but because it's realistic. It never says you won't go through fires. It never says Christianity is a fairytale and life will be perfect as soon as you accept Jesus. No, life is unfair and sticky and rough sometimes. But God will NEVER leave you. He will be with you, no matter the fire or river.

And the best part? It doesn't matter if this was written 2000 years ago by a man long since dead. The Bible is literally a living word. Which means this is just as true for me as it was for the Israelites in Babylonian exile.

Pretty cool huh? I'm having a pretty great run of life these days. I'm very blessed and so very THANKFUL for my life. But I know eventually I'm going to hit some fires. I know I'm going to go through rough patches. But I don't need to be scared or pessimistic about life. I have a Comforter who will be there, no matter what.
