So remember the other day when I was lusting after these pants?
I tracked them down and.....they were quite a bit over my budget for pink pants. About $500 over.
So I decided to get a bit creative. I went to Wally World and bought a bottle of Rit dye in Petal Pink
And I dyed me some pink pants!
I had a pair of white pin stripe pants from Forever 21 that I had stuck in my giveaway pile because I was sick of them. They were hand me downs from my sister and I'd had them for years so I thought I'd give them away. Sorry person out there who was frantically searching for white pinstripe pants in the thrift store.
pants shown here (forgot to take a before pic oops!)
I ended up having to dye them twice. The first time I was reluctant to dye them in my washer so I did it in the sink, which left a big white spot on the front that didn't dye. So I bought another bottle and dyed them in the washer and voila! Solid pink pants! I used the full bottle of dye since they were 75% synthetic material. After the dye I washed them once in warm water and soap, and while they drying I ran my washer with only soap and bleach. No stains at all!
I think I shall be trying this again very soon. Inspiration piece? about $500. Finished product? about $5! (for two bottles of Rit)
Lot's of pink love,

Now, aren't you clever!
ReplyDeleteThose pants are fabulous! I used the exact same dye to make pink t-shirts for a Breast Cancer 5k (here they are: http://mackensieg.blogspot.com/2011/10/put-on-your-pink-bra.html) and it was wonderful. Didn't even stain my hands.
ReplyDeleteThis was a great idea!!
