Woohoo! So I made my first vlog! You thought I was kidding when I said I have a munchkin voice. O ye of little faith. I never lie. Over exaggerate, sure. Never lie.
So this is what I call the "underhanded french braid". Hopefully the tutorial makes sense, but I will write out the steps below for those of you that like to read tutorials. Or you're like me and sneak blogs while at work, so you can't really watch videos.
1. Start with a small section near the scalp. Split your section into three pieces, like your going to start a regular braid.
2. Braid each piece ONCE. (Meaning each piece will be crossed once.) BUT instead of crossing the piece OVER each time, cross it UNDER. This takes a bit of practice. Just be patient.
LITTLE HINT: You will always cross the OUTSIDE pieces, never the middle piece. To help yourself, just keep thinking right hand, left hand, right hand, left hand. Always cross to the middle.
3. Once you have crossed your third piece UNDER, add a small section of loose hair to that piece. You have now started your french braid.
4. Cross the next piece under and add a small section to that piece.
5. Continue on in this fashion till you have braided as far down as you want. When braiding just my bangs, I stop at about my temple.
6. Braid the remaining hair as far down as you like. Remember to keep crossing UNDER. Loosen your braid slightly by pulling on the top of the braid. Bobby pin to the side of your head and finish with hairspray.
and you're done!
Useless bit of knowledge: this is the braid they used for Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games.

ReplyDeleteSecond, I have never braided my own hair! I have no idea how to do a french braid...and I wish I could now that I have a daughter with long hair. Your tutorial makes it look so easy...maybe I'll try this underhanded braid on Piper. :)
I love these things :)
ReplyDeleteAshamedly, I never learned how to do a french braid either! I am glad I am not alone lol! But, ummm...now I know it is so stinkin' easy! Can I do a variation of this with my hair since I have short bangs?
ReplyDeletei was trying to teach myself to french braid the other day and ended up quitting because i basically lost all feeling in my hands since i kept them on top of my head for so long braiding and re-braiding. so pathetic lol i know. but i will not give up! maybe today i'll try again?
