Scarf on hat- gift, Target Hat & Sunnies, H&M dress (worn previously here), Target flats, Francesca's watch.
I wore this outfit the other day. It was any old day, nothing special. I went to church. Went to lunch. Ran a few errands. No big deal.
On my way home I stopped by and got myself some ice cream. The girl at the money window asked if I had just gotten married. huh? She motioned to my dress and asked me again. I simply replied no and she seemed a bit confused but dropped it.
I drove on to the pick up window and the girl there asked if I was in a play. I was starting to feel a bit sassy so I told her no, I just always look this great. She laughed and I left.
This is not the first time that I have been questioned on my outfit of choice. It actually happens quite frequently.
While I'm well aware that not everyone agrees with (or appreciates) my sense of style, I think it's a bit depressing that a girl has to be in a wedding or in a play if she dresses up a bit.
What happened to fancy dresses, classy suits, and feminine hair styles? Since when did dressing down become the norm? When did SWEATPANTS become acceptable for public wear (actually I know the answer to this one, it was when Victoria's Secret started making such dang cute ones!)
Now don't get me wrong, I love me some pj's. I have no problem wearing slub clothes, and I certainly have no problem going out sans makeup.
But we are selling ourselves short here my friends. You can't tell me that you feel your utmost BEST when you're wearing ill fitted clothing and scruffy flip flops. There's something about slipping into a great dress or a new pair of shoes that calls to us. I can be having a crappy day, but give me a good swipe of red lippy and suddenly things don't seem as bad. Silly, I know, but it's true. When you feel good about your appearance you feel more confident and optimistic.
Now I'm not saying we all need to spend a fortune on our wardrobe. I'm not even saying you can't be casual or comfortable. But please, for the love of all things holy, leave the sweatpants behind and try out how those boyfriend jeans feel. Take 2 minutes and put on some mascara. Slip into a little luxury. You'll be amazed at how much better you will feel.
If you made it through that entire rant, we're probably related or best friends.
If we're not, then we probably should be.

I am CHEERING!! I couldn't agree more! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100%! I don't have to, but I dress up every day for work and love it. I feel more confident in the work place, especially since I'm surrounded by tall men (I'm 5'2). I walk a little taller, talk a little louder, and just feel damn good about myself.
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable in that little blue dress. Keep struttin' around in those cute outfits girl! xx, Allie
haha yes!!! soooo true! i feel better when im dressed up! love that dress too!!
ReplyDeleteyes yes yes!! I agree 100000%. love your cute self! :)
ReplyDeletehaha! I guess this means we're new BFF's!! Considering I made it through you're entire rant and all. ;) Honestly, I love this! I hate when people question why you're dressed up. It's happened to me too. So sad. But you look amazing and i love your style!
ReplyDeleteI'll admit, if I just have to "run" to the grocery store and I'm not already dressed, I probably won't be getting dressed. But if it'll be longer than 5 minutes, you bet I'd get somewhat decent first!
I completely agree! You go girl!!! I hate not feeling good when I leave the house. I'm a little out of girlfriends right now and I haven't really had any close ones in over a year (I move a LOT and it dosn't leave much room for making friends) and I miss getting all dressed up and going out for cocktails and being stared at and just being feminine. I miss that so much.

ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for posting this! I couldn't believe my poor eyes when I went home to visit my family in a medium-sized Southern Ontario city and saw multiple people each day wearing what could only be categorized as pajama pants. That's right - even worse than sweats. Glad to hear someone is keeping it classy on the North American homefront!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos as always. The one with your back to the camera and your skirt full at both sides is incredible. Love it. :)
Oh my goodness I love that dress! That zipper down the length of the back is so cute I love it!
